Travel: A Life Captured Through the Lens

I have loved traveling for as long as I can remember, and my adventures began in 1980 on a train from my native Switzerland to Rotterdam in Holland. At the time, I was embarking on a career as a chef in the international hospitality industry, eager to explore new kitchens, cultures, and flavors. Alongside me was a simple camera—a modest companion that would soon become indispensable in capturing the magic of the world I was discovering. From bustling city streets to quiet countryside scenes, the camera allowed me to freeze fleeting moments and preserve memories that would stay with me forever.

My journey took me back briefly to Switzerland, where I honed my culinary skills, before leading me to the faraway land of Australia. Every stop along the way offered a fresh perspective, from the vivid natural landscapes to the dynamic blend of cultures in each city. But it was in Singapore, over five glorious and formative years, that I truly began to merge my two passions: food and photography. In the vibrant kitchens of Singapore, I discovered the art of food photography, learning not only how to plate and style dishes with care, but also how to bring them to life through the lens. Studio techniques, lighting, and composition became tools that transformed simple ingredients into compelling visual stories.

Travel, for me, has always been more than visiting new destinations—it is about immersion, curiosity, and connection. Whether wandering through the narrow streets of European towns, hiking up volcanic peaks in Indonesia, or exploring markets brimming with color and life, every journey is an opportunity to observe, learn, and capture the world in all its richness. Each photograph I take is more than an image; it is a reflection of the place, the people, and the culture that inspired it. The camera has become a bridge between my experiences and the stories I wish to share with others.

Over the decades, my travels have taken me across continents and oceans, each destination adding its own chapter to my story. Europe, with its timeless architecture and quiet villages, taught me patience and attention to detail. Asia, with its vibrant colors, bustling streets, and rich culinary traditions, taught me to embrace spontaneity and boldness. And the remote corners of the world, from lush tropical islands to serene mountain valleys, reminded me of the extraordinary beauty that exists both in nature and in the simplicity of daily life.

Through these journeys, I have learned that travel is not just about the places we see—it is about the connections we make, the moments we share, and the stories we carry home. Photography allows me to capture the essence of these experiences, preserving them not just as visual records, but as invitations to explore, reflect, and feel. Every image is a celebration of curiosity, adventure, and the human spirit, whether it is a quiet sunrise over a rice terrace, a bustling market scene, or a candid portrait of a local artisan at work.

Today, travel continues to inspire my work and my life. From the first train ride out of Switzerland to countless adventures across Europe, Asia, and beyond, I carry my camera as a trusted companion, always ready to document beauty, culture, and the fleeting moments that make each journey unforgettable. My hope is that through this Travel Gallery, visitors can experience the joy, wonder, and inspiration that travel has given me—and perhaps be encouraged to embark on their own adventures, camera in hand, heart open to the world.
