Urban Australia
My Australian story began in 1980 when, by the luck of a great adventure, I arrived on this extraordinary continent. Within weeks I bought a twenty-year-old Holden Torana and set out to discover what Australia had to offer. Those first journeys opened a lifelong passion: a love of travel, sport and the wild, changing landscapes that shape this nation. In 1983 I proudly became Australian, and since then my respect and gratitude for this country — its land, its people and its stories — have only deepened.
Over the years my camera has been a companion to many adventures. I’ve raced on two wheels across the Simpson Desert not once but four times, pushed myself in races from north of Cairns through the Daintree up to Cooktown, and explored thousands of kilometres on a motorcycle with my wife as pillion — from Adelaide along the Birdsville Track up to Cairns, and from Melbourne across the Snowy Mountains all the way up the East Coast to Cape York. Four-wheel journeys have taken us from Darwin into Kakadu National Park and across the Gulf Country into far North Queensland. These travels have delivered countless moments of awe: the hush of dawn over red sand, the wet-season symphony in tropical forest, the brilliant electric light of a desert storm, and the subtle, ancient traces of history written on the land.
Australia is vast — a continent of contrasts — and those contrasts are part of its power. To give a sense of scale: Australia covers roughly 7.7 million square kilometres, making it the sixth-largest country in the world. It stretches across distances of some 4,000 kilometres in many directions, with a coastline that measures in the tens of thousands of kilometres. Within those great distances you’ll find deep deserts, ancient rainforests, rugged mountain ranges, and endless coastline — each area with its own light, texture and mood. Photographing here is an education in scale, in patience, and in listening to place.
My photographs are born from all of this — from long days on dusty tracks, sudden detours into remote regions, shared conversations with locals, and quiet moments when the country simply reveals itself. I have profound respect for Australia’s lands and waters and for the First Nations peoples whose cultures and custodianship reach back tens of thousands of years. Their stories and care for Country continue to inform my work and my appreciation of the places I’m privileged to visit.
The images on this site are a small window onto a country I love and continue to explore. Each frame is an invitation: to pause, to travel, and to feel something of the vastness and intimacy that Australia offers. All photographs are available as fine art prints or as high-quality digital files, allowing you to use each image in a personal, creative way — whether as a framed print for your home, a large-scale statement piece, or a digital asset for your own projects.
Please explore the galleries, and if a particular photograph speaks to you I’d be delighted to work with you on prints or digital licensing. Thank you for stopping by, and for sharing a moment of appreciation for this remarkable land.
